Display turns off after a few seconds

Hi there, new to the forums but have spent a good few weeks trying to figure this out!

I’ve tried 3 different Pi’s (two Pi 4’s and one Pi 3) and 3 different adafruit matrix bonnets and 3 different displays (all HUB75, two 64x64 and one 32x64) and all have the same issue.

I’ve tried the troubleshooting steps in the library, gpio slowdown, turn off audio etc, and I’m running it in convenience mode so no jumper necessary. I’ve soldered the 8pin on the bonnet as instructed too.

but no matter which demo I run, the same thing happens on all of my displays, they work as expected for around 2-5 seconds, then the whole screen goes black and doesn’t work again until I stop the demo and restart it. Turning the brightness down doesn’t make it stay on longer or anything, it’s always 2-5 seconds. I’ve tried multiple different power supplies powering the display independently, all of them over 5v5a

Hope that’s enough info, completely stumped as to what to try next! Any help is really appreciated

That’s a tough one. Have you tried a simple ribbon cable? You need to start eliminating causes seperately (hardware, data wiring, panel types, power, software). Have you isolated each component and ruled them out one-by-one instead of testing the integration of them all as a whole? Your problem is unique and unreproducible over the web unfortunately so can only offer high-level theoretical advice. But my hunch is the data cable wires and panel expectations aren’t matching, or other environmental factors rather than software bug.

if you unplug and replug the panels after they shut down, do they come back to life?
is the rPi running during the entire time?
